ARAM on Steroids: CHAOS Arrives

Riot has officially announced ARAM: Chaos, a special mode coming with patch 25.21, and it promises matches that are more explosive than ever.
ARAM has always been that chill place to hang out with friends, test random champs, or just spam abilities without thinking too hard. But this time, Riot decided to spice things up in a wild way: they added Augments to the Abyss. Yes, you read that right.
Augments in ARAM… things are about to get crazy
In ARAM: Chaos, you’ll get to choose between three Augments right at the start of the match, and then unlock more at levels 7, 11, and 15. These aren’t simple buffs — they completely change how your champion plays.
If you’ve tried Arena or TFT, you already get the idea: these are massive upgrades that break the usual rules. Think of an unkillable Sona, a Mordekaiser sprinting like he has 1000 MS boots, or snowballs the size of Baron Nashor… no joke.
Plus, if you die, you’ll be able to choose new Augments before heading back to the bridge. And there’s even a “secret Augment” that lets you recall to base and pick new ones without waiting to die. Riot really went full mad scientist on this one.

From Wild Rift to LoL: The Idea Behind the Mode
It all started with ARAM AAA in Wild Rift — a mode that already included Augments and was well received by mobile players. At the same time, Arena was booming thanks to its strategic 2v2 style. Riot decided to blend those two concepts and asked themselves:
“What if we bring this madness to ARAM?”
In just two days, an engineer and a designer built the first prototype: they simply threw Arena Augments into ARAM.
And even though it sounded like a quick hack, it worked on the very first test. The chaos felt natural, fights were unique, and there was this “this has potential” vibe that ended up turning into a full-fledged project.
40+ New Augments to Break Everything
Riot didn’t hold back. Besides bringing back several popular Augments, they created over 40 brand-new ones specifically for ARAM: Chaos. Some are brilliant, some are absurd, and some feel like they were born out of a fever dream.

I Am the King 👑: If you use the enemy base teleporter, you become the “king,” gaining a Prismatic Augment and special bonuses.

Giga Snowball! ❄️: Your snowball grows four to five times bigger and basically turns into a second ultimate.

Bring It: Pick up your allies’ snowballs to throw them yourself.
Now imagine combining these three on Nunu. Yes, the possibility of a double, triple, or even quadruple Nunu exists. Literal monster.
Avoiding Visual Chaos: A Real Challenge
One of the biggest challenges for Riot was that, unlike Arena, ARAM has 10 champions all spamming abilities down a single lane. Some Augments, like “Center of the Universe” (Aurelion Sol-style spinning stars), filled the entire screen with effects — making it impossible to tell what was happening.
The solution? They removed all persistent visual effects and kept only Augments that trigger at key moments. This way, fights stay intense without turning into an incomprehensible visual mess.
Don’t Worry, Classic ARAM Is Still There
If you’re a fan of traditional ARAM, relax — it’s not going anywhere. ARAM: Chaos will have its own separate queue, so you can pick what kind of match you want depending on your mood. One day you can chill and toss snowballs, and the next, you can try out ridiculous builds that only exist in this mode.
